On October 11, 2020, Atlas Mechanical, Inc. (Atlas) discovered suspicious activity on its computer network. An unauthorized actor had accessed and acquired the mechanical contracting company’s files and infected their system with malware that prevented access to certain information.
Data-stealing malware targets personal or proprietary information with the intent of monetizing stolen data through ransom demands, direct use, or selling the files via underground distribution.
According to Atlas, personal information compromised by the security incident includes the following:
Atlas claims to have reviewed their data storage procedures and secured their systems. At this time, it is unclear whether the breach involves only Atlas employees or other associated parties, such as clients, contractors, or vendors.
Atlas is offering one year of credit monitoring services to affected individuals. The company has also set up a dedicated call center addressing the data breach at 855-914-4703 between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.
Founded in 1991, Atlas is headquartered in San Diego, California, with additional locations in Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Las Vegas, Nevada. The company provides large-scale heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) design, installation and maintenance services for large-scale projects across the United States. Estimated annual revenues exceed $330 million.
