On November 26, 2021, Creative Services, Inc. (“CSI”) discovered that an unauthorized third party gained access to and copied certain files on its servers where sensitive personal information was stored.
Creative Services, Inc. is a consulting firm located in Mansfield, MA that serves public and private, regulated and non-regulated, profit and not-for-profit clients with services such as; background screening, drug & health occupational screening, social media screening, security consulting and government services. Its national and global clients include those in industries such as; biotechnology, energy, environmental sciences, finance, healthcare, higher education, technology, transportation and much more. This includes companies like Boston Properties, Inc.
Employers, otherwise known as “End Users,” often use the services of background screening firms such as Creative Services, Inc., to conduct background checks for employment purposes on applicants, employees and/or volunteers, otherwise known as “consumers.”
In total, the data of 164,673 individuals was compromised in the breach. If you received a data breach incident letter from Creative Services, Inc., you were impacted by the breach.
WHAT INFORMATION IS INVOLVED?
According to Creative Services, Inc., the following information is included in the data breach:
This information is called your Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”). It tells others about you and is considered part of your identity. Businesses are required to secure this information or risk facing statutory penalties, among other legal penalties. Stolen PII can be used by identity thieves to engage in fraudulent activity using your identity.
Creative Services, Inc. is offering 12 months of free credit and identity protection services. The best way to protect yourself after a data breach is to sign up for credit and identity protection services as soon as possible. California offers extra protections and legal rights to its residents through the California Consumer Privacy Act.
