LendUS, LLC Data Breach

Between February 2, 2021 and March 22, 2021, LendUS, LLC (“LendUS”) experienced a data breach where an unauthorized third party gained access to files on its servers where sensitive personal information was stored. LendUS, LLC waited almost a full year to start notifying people that their information was accessed by unauthorized persons.

LendUS, LLC is a mortgage lending company headquartered in Alamo, California. LendUs assists consumers with the process of home buying, refinancing and other services nationwide. LendUS, LLC has approximately 720 employees and generates about $80 million in sales. If you received a notice from LendUS, LLC, you were impacted by the breach.

What Information is Involved?

According to LendUs, the following information was contained in various emails and attachments that were included in the data breach:

  • Social Security numbers
  • Names

This information is called your Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”). It tells others about you and is considered part of your identity. Businesses are required to secure this information or risk facing statutory penalties, among other legal penalties. Stolen PII can be used by identity thieves to engage in fraudulent activity using your identity.

LENDUS is offering one year of free identity protection services. The best way to protect yourself after a data breach is to sign up for identity protection services as soon as possible. California offers extra protections and legal rights to its residents through the California Consumer Privacy Act.
