Beginning on August 1, 2021, Morley Companies, Inc. (“Morley”) discovered it could not access data on its systems, and that a ransomware-type malware attack on its systems had occurred where an unauthorized third party gained access to files on its servers where sensitive personal information and confidential personal health information was stored.
On February 1, 2022, Morley began to send Notice of Data Security Incident letters to its current employees, former employees, and clients. In total, the data of 521,046 individuals was compromised in the breach.
Based in Saginaw, Michigan, Morley Companies, Inc. provides various business services to Fortune 500 and Global 100 clients. Morley assists clients in industries such as automotive, healthcare, technology, and communications. Morley has approximately 2,500 employees and generates over $170 million in sales annually. If you received a notice from Morley Companies, Inc., you were impacted by the breach.
According to Morley Companies, Inc., the following information is included in the data breach:
This information is called your Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”) and Protected Health Information (“PHI”). It tells others about you and is considered part of your identity. Businesses are required to secure this information or risk facing statutory penalties, among other legal penalties. Stolen PII and PHI can be used by identity thieves to engage in fraudulent activity using your identity.
Morley Companies, Inc. is offering two years of free credit and identity protection services. The best way to protect yourself after a data breach is to sign up for credit and identity protection services as soon as possible. California offers extra protections and legal rights to its residents through the California Consumer Privacy Act.
