letter about data breachesOn January 30, 2020, leading North American rail contractor RailWorks notified its employees that an unauthorized third party had encrypted the corporation’s computer servers and systems – exposing sensitive personal information, such as government-issued IDs, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth.

Established in 1998, RailWorks Corporation provides infrastructure construction services in the United States and Canada. The company constructs, installs, and maintains transit and crossing warning systems, tracks, HBDs, switch heaters, and fiber optic cables. Three entities operate in California: HSQ Technology, RailWorks Track Services, Inc. and LK Comstock National Transit.

RailWorks has not yet reported misuse of the personal information of its estimated 3,000 employees, but they are advising staff to take precautionary measures to protect their financial security and monitor their credit.
