 rows of lock icons with one red and openOn June 4, 2021, hackers gained access to servers where Kings Seafood, Co. (“Kings Seafood”) stored sensitive client data. Kings Seafood waited until September of 2021 to notify people that their information was accessed through a letter dated September 14, 2021. Sensitive information that clients provided to Kings Seafood was exposed from June 4, 2021 to August 23, 2021.

Kings Seafood is offering one year or two years of free identity protection services. The best way to protect yourself after a data breach is to sign up for identity protection services as soon as possible. California offers extra protections and legal rights to its residents through the California Consumer Privacy Act.

WHAT INFORMATION IS INVOLVED?

According to the notice that Kings Seafood sent, the following information was affected:

  • Driver’s license information
  • Payment card information
  • Medical cards
  • Telephone numbers
  • Partial Social Security numbers

This information is called your Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”) and Protected Health Information (“PHI”). It tells others about you and is considered part of your identity. Businesses are required to secure this information or risk facing statutory penalties, among other legal penalties. Stolen PII/PHI can be used by identity thieves to engage in fraudulent activity using your identity.

Kings Seafood is a seafood company that operates 22 restaurants in California, Arizona, and Nevada.
