In December 2021, Community Loan Servicing, LLC (“Community Loan”) discovered that an unauthorized third party obtained access to Community Loan’s servers and the files on those servers. Between October 27, 2021 and December 7, 2021 the unauthorized third party used that access to view customer information and access private personally identifiable information.
Community Loan Servicing, LLC is a mortgage service and specialized asset management company in the United States and is located in Coral Gables, Florida. It services mortgages and invests in new production performing mortgage servicing right (“MSR”) portfolios. Community Loan has at least 121 employees. In total, the data of thousands of individuals was compromised in the breach. If you received a data breach incident letter from Community Loan Servicing, LLC, you were impacted by the breach.
Two other loan servicing companies, Pingora and Lakeview, also experienced data breaches in December 2021.
According to Community Loan, the following information was exposed:
This information is called your Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”). It tells others about you and is considered part of your identity. Businesses are required to secure this information or risk facing statutory penalties, among other legal penalties. Stolen PII can be used by identity thieves to engage in fraudulent activity using your identity.
Community Loan is offering 12 months of free Identity Monitoring. The best way to protect yourself after a data breach is to sign up for credit and identity protection services as soon as possible. California offers extra protections and legal rights to its residents through the California Consumer Privacy Act.
