Between July 19, 2021 and July 25, 2021, Timios, Inc. (also called Timios) experienced a data breach where an unauthorized third party gained access to its servers where sensitive client data was stored. Timios waited until October 11, 2021 to notify people through a written letter that their information was accessed. If you received this letter you were impacted by the breach.
Timios is offering one year of free identity protection services. The best way to protect yourself after a data breach is to sign up for identity protection services as soon as possible. California offers extra protections and legal rights to its residents through the California Consumer Privacy Act.
According to Timios, the following information was affected:
This information is called your Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”). It tells others about you and is considered part of your identity. Businesses are required to secure this information or risk facing statutory penalties, among other legal penalties. Stolen PII can be used by identity thieves to engage in fraudulent activity using your identity.
Timios is a title and settlement services company based in Westlake Village, California. At the time of this writing, the breach impacted 74,755 people who did business with Timios.
