Tragic Windsor Hills Car Crash: A Community Remembers

Posted on behalf of Arnold Law Firm in

On August 4, 2022, a tragic car accident at the intersection of La Brea and Slauson avenues in Windsor Hills claimed the lives of six innocent people, including a child and an unborn baby. The crash, caused by a speeding car that ran a red light at over 100 mph, left an indelible mark on the community. The victims of this horrific incident were Nathesia Lewis, Lynette Noble, Asherey Ryan, her son Alonzo Quintero, her boyfriend Reynold Lester, and their unborn child Armani Lester. The community continues to grapple with the grief and pain from that fateful day.

A Community United in Remembrance

Two years after the tragedy, on a solemn Saturday, the Windsor Hills community came together to unveil a new memorial in honor of the victims. Family members and community activists gathered at the site to pay tribute to those lost. Each name of the victims was read aloud, and as a symbol of peace and remembrance, doves were released one by one.

Among the tributes was a “ghost tire,” a haunting yet meaningful memorial to serve as a constant reminder of the lives taken too soon. For the victims’ families, this tribute is a poignant reminder that their loved ones will not be forgotten. This act of remembrance was further solidified when the nearby Rocket gas station owners donated space for a permanent memorial bench and a community garden in 2023, offering a place of solace and reflection for those affected by the tragedy.

The Legal Battle Continues

The legal proceedings against Nicole Linton, the driver accused of causing the crash, have been ongoing. Linton faces six counts of murder and five counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. She is due back in court on August 16, 2024. The slow pace of the legal process has only prolonged the pain for the victims’ families, who are desperate for justice and closure.

“It’s still horrific, honestly. We’ve been going to therapy, but that doesn’t really help with anything because the grief and the pain are still real, and we still feel it every day,” said Sha’seana Kerr, one of the victims’ sisters. “But coming to this park, it does help a lot just to be outside and connect with them, I guess.”

The community’s resilience in the face of such a devastating loss is a testament to their strength. The memorials serve not only as a place to honor those who died but also as a symbol of the ongoing fight for justice and the need for safer streets.

Truck Accident

A 20-year-old man who had been married for just 12 days left home on his way to work. He was driving on Pleasant Grove Road in Sutter County in the early morning when he came upon a slow-moving truck. As he pulled out to pass the truck, the truck driver turned left in front of him. The young man attempted to steer back into his lane but his vehicle struck an un-flagged piece of metal extending from the back of the truck. He died in the resulting crash.

Expert witnesses brought in by the Arnold Law Firm proved that the truck, owned and operated by a hauling firm, should never have been on the highway that morning. Specifically, the rear and side turn signals did not work and the rear-view mirror was in a poor state of adjustment at the time of the collision. As a result, the driver, who had failed to properly inspect the vehicle before setting out that morning, couldn’t see the young man’s vehicle as it attempted to pass.

The poor condition of the truck, its lack of maintenance and the manner in which it was operated were found to be substantial factors in causing the collision that killed the young man. The testimony also established that the man had been making a lawful pass at the lawful speed limit and acted reasonably when he attempted to avoid the collision.

The man’s 20-year-old widow was awarded $3,767,000.77, his parents were awarded $185,131 and the family was reimbursed $11,899 in funeral expenses. Though money is a poor substitute for a young man’s life, this verdict demonstrates that drivers who endanger the lives of others will be held accountable for their actions.
