On March 20, 2020, healthcare provider Golden Valley Health Centers (GVHC) notified its patients that a data security incident may have resulted in the inadvertent exposure of their protected health information (PHI), including patient billing and insurance information, patient referral information, and appointment records.

The data breach was identified by GVHC on March 3, 2020 and involves an email account that was accessed by an unknown, unauthorized third party. The email account contained patient medical information.

GHVC has not disclosed how many of its 125,000 patients may have been affected by the data breach, but the provider is reportedly taking steps to notify individuals, including sending letters to anyone whose information has been compromised.

GVHC operates 38 health centers throughout the Central Valley, providing a wide range of healthcare services from internal medicine and pediatrics to optometry and chiropractic care. The provider began in 1972 as a hospital-operated migrant health program in Merced.

If you are a patient of GVHC and have received a NOTICE OF DATA BREACH email or letter regarding this incident, contact the Arnold Law Firm at (916) 777-7777 to discuss your situation and possible legal options.
