Kevin P. Cleveland grew up near Denver, Colorado, and received his undergraduate degree in 2003 from the University of Maryland. While at UMD, he earned several academic honors, completed the University Honors and Gemstone Research Programs and was a highly ranked national debater for the American Parliamentary Debate Association. Following graduation, Mr. Cleveland worked as a child psychology and sociology researcher for a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C. His research, which was aimed at informing key federal policymakers on how to improve the lives of children and youth, was published in various peer-reviewed journals and appeared in several government reports.

Mr. Cleveland attended the University of San Diego School of Law, where he helped found the school’s Journal of Climate and Energy Law and served as the first Chief Articles Editor. He also received the prestigious James A. D’Angelo Outstanding Child Advocate Award, was a member of the school’s national mock trial team, and competed for the school’s moot court team. Mr. Cleveland graduated in 2009 and passed the California Bar in July 2009.

While in law school, Mr. Cleveland worked as a certified law clerk in the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office. After passing the bar, he continued with the Public Defender’s Office, working with hundreds of clients to protect them from unjust prosecution. In addition to criminal law, Mr. Cleveland’s experience in law school included work in the fields of family law, energy law and welfare law. He is excited to join the Arnold Law Firm and use his legal skills to help improve the lives of his clients.

Mr. Cleveland lives in Sacramento. In his free time, he is learning golf and enjoys tennis, rock climbing, hiking, and other activities that allow him to enjoy the great outdoors.
